Ending My June {2010}

Last month, May 31 to be exact, I wrote a review of what took place the entire month of May. I dealt with experiences and learnings. I talked about people I elbowed with and current events that affected the nation. I thought of having the same sort as I end the month of June simply for the fact that this month had been cool enough and at the same time I believe was too fruitful for me and the rest of my intimate circle.

Looking Back

As I look back, the month of June is juicy and rich in memories that I have to categorize them into:

Occasions and People—A lot of monumental events happened this June. Myqueen celebrated her birthday in California, Arjan and Jerome visited me in the house the first time, the first season of Glee ended. Shaira entered highschool , my heart was broken and tormented by the Empress, I finished Naruto Shippuden, My DVD player now functioning, my Mom had an accident and miraculously survived without severe physical damages, and a new Teen Big Winner.

Learnings—I came to realize that it is not good to build a world around a person alone. What happened with us nito lang June followed by what happened with Mom taught me I have to make Mama my first priority as of now rather than anyone else. Well, meron siyang Ronel who can take care of her but my Mom doesn’t have any and she loves me more than anyone so siguro logical kung kay Mama ko ibuhos lahat ng atensiyon ko ngayong tinapos niya na lahat.

Accomplishements—I gained more friends in facebook and I was able to finish three new tracks and five recordings plus the edited versions. I now have a complete play list of the songs from March to June 2010. I am more positive now, more expectant and more idealistic.

Looking Right Still

Today marks the end of June and these are the things that will become history tomorrow [for sure maraming pagod at puyat mamaya dahil sa mga ito]:

1. The Quadricentennial Preliminary Performances of Teatro Tomasino

In lieu of the 400th year of UST, the only pontifical university in Southeast Asia, Teatro Tomasino proudly presents Call Time; Wag Kang Male-lelate Ha a play which is also a dedication for the 32nd theater season ng UST Teatro Tomasino.

2. Inauguration of A New President

According to the Constitution 1987, the new president will take his oath highnoon of the last day of June. Ngayon yun. He will assume his office immediately after. Today the Philippines will have a new president formally at napakalaking event nito. Ngayong araw ito magaganap as I end the month of June.

3. Opening of Eclipse, Twilight Saga

Internationally, Kristen Stewart’s movie “Eclipse”, a continuation of the first two prequel; “Twilight” and “New Moon” will debut on its premier. I have read the book and it seems to be my favorite so I expect that Eclipse will be outstanding. For me kasi New Moon is a little boring, opinion ko lang. After watching it I will write a review about the film but until then I will only wait for reactions from those who will watch it today.

Looking Forward

July is another extravagant month. Mom’s birthday is approaching, works are augmenting, new seasons of friendships are blossoming. In all of these, we expect that what was learned this month will be put into application this coming half of the year.

Actors With Full Moons Behind Them

There has been a lot of differences when it comes to Filipino filmmaking and the Hollywood concerning exposures. I was stunned by the fact that almost all good actors like Sylvester Stallone, Kevin Zegers, Keaneu Reeves, Nicholas Clay, Patrick Wilson, Paul Walker, Antonio Banderas and others already showed their backs in camera for the sake of Hollywood.

We can't deny the truth na mainit ang disagreement when it comes to what is nudity and what is artistic. I am sure these guys did not for one of these reasons;
1. Maybe they want to express themselves completely
2. they were paid and they just want the money.
3. They want to be teh talk of the town. Siguro kasi alam din nila na paguusapan ang likuran nila and the flesh below.
4. They are really slaves of arts. They understand the scenes completely and willing to do aesthetic improvements if necessary.

I would like to believe that it is the fourth reason that is dominant.

I think that would be really really great.

Kung titingnan, mapapansin mo talagang nagwork out si James gaya ni Brad para ma-attain yung ganoong uri ng muscle on that precious part of his below.

Are These Favors or Disadvantages

I have my own reasons for not agreeing with the masses in the case of James Reid as Big Winner. I think it is unfair that somebody who doesn't even wanted nor needed to be in the big 6 was chosen to be the big winner. It is Devon who is in need of it, while it is Ivan who proves to be deserving of it. Neither of the two was chosen to be second to James.

Ryan Bang who said he just see himself as a mediocre-someone in the middle- was elected to be next to James. I really don't know. It was like the timem when I was disappointed by Melai's winning when it is Paul Jake who deserves the prize. Neitehr Fretzie is deserving. She is the third to James. Maaring positive thinker siya pero sobrang play safe siya to the point of being indecisive and compromising. Lagi niyang sagot is depende when the question necessitates a "yes" and a "no" for an answer.

Hindi ko alam kung marami sa mga nangyayari ngayon is a blessing or a bad fortune.

Kanina kasing umaga namatay na ang dog sa bahay na si Punggok who was with us for almost 10 years.

Batch 2010's Official Response Regarding the Commencement Addresses of MVP Share

Dear Mr. Pangilinan,

Graduation is an event marked by people overflowing with triumph and euphoria, with some hint of sadness. It is a time of hanging on to the fond memories of friendship and lessons learned; letting go of the bad things which hinder one’s own and others’ growth; looking forward to the future as the graduates face a brand new chapter in their lives in entering the “real” world; and going with love because it is true that the world would die without it.

Just a day after that momentous event, the Graduation of SOH and SOSS Sesquicentennial Batch 2010, however, I and the rest of my batchmates still in the dark were greeted with the news of other people comparing parts of your commencement address with other previously given addresses by (as far as I know) J. K. Rowling, Barack Obama, Conan O’ Brien and Oprah Winfrey. People were voicing out views, comments and reactions all over the place, specifically on the social networking site Facebook. They ranged from the most negative and severe, the impartial and reflective, to the most supportive and optimistic on your behalf. The enormity with which the incident blew out of proportion, significantly because of media coverage and the internet, seemed astounding in the days that followed. This was then followed with the immediate release of your public apology and you owning up (and taking full and sole responsibility at that) to the mistake many of your detractors have maliciously chosen to point out, highlight, and emphasize. For that alone, you already have our full respect and admiration. Father Ben replied consequently, and asked that you reconsider your decision, after he accepted your apology with much care and understanding.

In view of all these and upon consultation, Batch 2010 would like you to know that like Father Ben, we understand that this incident has caused much personal embarrassment and pain on your part. And also with Father Ben, the Batch accepts your earnest apology wholeheartedly, and also utterly respects the fact that you do take full responsibility, even though the whole thing was not entirely of your doing.

Also like Father Ben, the Batch would have to disagree with your decision of retiring from your duties in the Ateneo, especially for the Ateneo community. The Batch recognizes that your response to what has become a sort of fiasco for waiting vultures was apt for a man such as you, and we can only imagine your distress throughout this whole unfortunate event – enough that you would claim that “wala na akong mukhang maihaharap.” Speaking in behalf of the alumni and undergraduates of the university, we indeed recognize that you are very much valued by the Ateneo community; so much so that it is believed we are fully equipped in moving on, learning, and going forward from this whole regrettable occurrence. And enumerating everything you have contributed to the Ateneo would be futile and overwhelming, to say the least; hence, I will refrain from doing so here.

As you must have felt that the events which unfolded were out of your hands, we too believe that your decision in the end is also beyond our grasp – it is between you, Father Ben, and the Board of Trustees. It has always been an honor that a man such as your magnanimity, innovation, dedication, and ardent spirit chose to be prominently of service to and for the Ateneo; and we sincerely hope you continue gracing us with that honor despite whatever ultimate decision you make. You, together with other Ateneo visionaries, were given the gift of having the capacity to change lives – lives which work and thrive from being inspired and motivated by you – through your life right now and beyond. Now, more than ever, we need someone who can show us how to deal with challenges, the way you have handled this situation with courage and utmost humility.

Sincerely yours,

Lousy Production for a Hasty Decision

I always have the reason to be disappointed with FILIPINO voters. They always vote unwisely!

First, Melai won while Paul Jake deserves it. Noynoy won wile Richard Gordon deserves the spot and now... James Reid won while anyone from Devon Seron and Ivan Dorschner deserves to win it.

Grabe ang nangyari pero mababa ang entertainment and glamour value ng production na ginanap sa Ynares Sports Center di gaya ng sa PBB Double Up.

Narito ang isang review at ulat from Sun Star Manila=...

ROBERT James Reid, the "Dashing Dude of Australia" was named as the Big Winner in Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Teen Clash of 2010 Big Night held at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City Saturday evening.

The half-Australian, half-Filipino housemate grew up in the land down under but is currently living in the country with his father.

James entered the house last May 1 with the rest of the teenternational housemates and shared during an interview that he misses the laid-back lifestyle in Aussie.

The Big Winner captured the attention of many with his Australian accent and talents. He is a guitarist, gymnast, swimmer and tri-athlete.

Inside the house James shown that he is a team player and can easily adjust to the magnified life inside PBB.

He was also the first one to understand the feelings and situation of Pinoy housemate Tricia Santos when everyone had a hard time with her.

On his 20th day inside the house, many were surprised when James was rushed to the hospital after suffering from chest pains.

The teenternationals were all in panic when Big Brother announced that James will be force evicted if he cannot return inside the house within 24 hours.

He was diagnosed with costochondritis, a condition that causes chest pain due to inflammation of the cartilage and chest wall. But after a few hours James was given clearance by the hospital and was allowed to go back inside the house just in time for "The Big Goal Concert."

Big Brother then allowed him to help all his housemates by being the concert's supervisor. During the Big Night, PBB also announced that the housemates were able to collect P580,000 which will help the Philippine Football team to the Homeless World Cup in Brazil this September.

James got a total of 179,294 or 19.75% votes. He received P1 million, a Sony Vaio laptop, 46" Sony LCD tv, Crystal Clear franchise and Asian tour for two in three key destination in Asia and a P3 million worth of condominium unit from Globe Asiatique.

Ryan Bang, the "Simpatikong Leader of Korea" came as the 2nd Big Placer with 169,797 or 18.02% of votes.

The "Charming Angel of Cebu" Fretzie Bercede" and Devon May Seron, the "Bubbly Promdi of Cebu" came out in 3rd with 145,176 or 15.99% and 4th place with 142,876 or 15.74% of votes respectively.

This is the first time in PBB history that two Cebuana housemates went all the way to the Big Night. In last season's Pinoy Big Brother Double Up only one Cebuano housemate, John Paul Castillo, went to the finals and took the second big place trophy.

Ivan Dorschner, the "Filipino-Irish model of California" went home in the fifth position with 137,402 or 15.14% votes and was followed by the "Indie Singer of USA" Bret Jackson with 133,239 or 14.68% of votes. The latter went to Siliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental before entering the PBB house.

During the Big Night Melissa Cantiveros, PBB Double Up Big Winner, graced the dance floor with the ex-teen housemates.

Teen singer Sam Concepcion opened the event with the song "Pyramid" by Charice and Pilipinas Got Talent finalist Velasco Brothers also performed during the night.

On Sunday "High Five: The Big Five years of PBB Concert" will be airing on ABS-CBN after "Sharon."

Stars that are expected to grace the reunion concert are Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, John Pratts, Uma Khouny, Cassandra Ponti, Keanna Reeves, Will Devaughn, Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu.

Today's Reading

Psalm 16:1-2, 5, 7-11
Galatians 5:1, 13-18
Luke 9:51-62

Commentary

Last Sunday, my point is all about knowing who God is deeply. The Gospel reading then gives us an instance that every Christian will come to a point when they will be asked in a flash who Jesus is and in need of an immediate response. A Christian must have an answer ready made to show his firm stance. In addition, a Christian must know himself also so he can be able to follow Christ. Without a deep knowledge of who I am and who Christ is, I cannot be an efficient disciple.

Today a continuation of that idea prevails. Jesus again, is giving his conditions for discipleship. Last Sunday he warned that whoever wants to follow him must deny himself, take up his cross and follow him. Today a similar thought was given. A person who wants to attend Christian ministry must not turn a neck backwards but must strain forward.

On a serious note, the gospel also gives us another reason why we need to study God. Several people are blinded by mistakes and fabricated doctrines about God. They say He is loving and loving to the point of no hatred. There is, according to them, no way God can answer no for a prayer. I say to them now, and listen, God can answer us NO. In the Gospel, no figure in there was answered by Jesus with affirmation. First the apostles, they asked if the Lord wants them to bid fire come down from heaven and consume them but Jesus rebuked them. A person asked him if he could be a Jesus follower but our Lord refused and sent him away saying "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head." Strike two!

Thirdly, Jesus asked another man to follow him but asked if he could bury his father first. Jesus did not allow him and instead said to him Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God."

Fourthly, another man asked permission to see his family and bid farewell to them first but again our Lord never gave an allowance but a reprimand saying "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."

We really need to know God. Our God is not somebody who can be manipulated by requests. He has his own reasons why a person is called and another not.

Application

There are only three kinds of person during Jesus' time in Israel, the critics, the fans, and the disciples. The critics wants to see the faults Christianity. The fans only wants to see and hear Jesus but after that leaves and not interested to follow him. The last one is the disciples who at the end became builders of Christian communities. Which are you?

Leaders are All About...

I have been receiving e-mails and questions via face book about leadership and what it is all about.
I am not the son of John Maxwell nor his avid. If I have this chance to select between him and Joel Osteen, I prefer Joel instead. But many people are so interested with topic I have always been writing in my notes and tagging all the people around and I believe they are reaching a larger crowd now.
Lately, even my dear friend from UST, now a PE teacher, Joanne Saldaña asked me about what game I cna recommend her so her students can play a leadership game.

Now I will make things clear that I only have shallow understanding about this topic. Only those that are related to my experiences I write about. Most of them about directing artists and conducting singers and musicians but not more of corporate world. Absolutely not about politics even if my parents are almost political scientists.

I will tell you today what leadership is all about in two ways;
- by telling you what leadership is not and,
- by telling you directly what leadership is all about

It will be very easy to understand leadership by understanding first what it is not.

1. Leadership is not Administration--Leaders are not always administrators. Administrators are those who hold a position and involved in a hierarchy and ranking programs. But leaders can lead without position. Leadership then, according to Boris Joaquin, is anytime you influence another peoples way of action in either personal or professional life.

2. Leadership is not Politics. Politics is defined by my parents as the art of governance. It is not dirty! politics is the style of a group of patriots on how they can administer the state. But leadership is also applicable in a basketball game, a dance troupe practice, and business. Leadership encompasses family lifestyle, business affiliations, work place, anything which is in need of someone to influence them.

3. Leadership is not just about Influence. Opposite to what many of us thought, leadership is about is more of influence but not all influential objects are leaders. For example, drugs. You can be influenced by drugs but that is not your leader. An actor can be influential and can move a bigger crowd but they are not leaders because they do not affect everyone's personal and professional life.

4. Leadership is not Prestige-- A leader is not dependent on how famous he or she is. Leaders accept visions not admiration.

Now what are the all abouts of leadership. I have seven coming from Aristotle's accidents.

1. Leadership is all about Quality [ ask "What"]
Leaders are often evaluated and criticized by what style of leadership they are practicing. Remember this leaders, you will be judged according to what approach of leadership you dwell in during your days. there are actually four leadership styles that several leaders consciously or unconsciously exercise.

1.1 Directive Leadership---Many of the old school leaders adhere to this. These are the types of leaders that are goal oriented but less affectionate to their members. They want all things done perfectly under their governance but never noticed the constraints of the followers. However, projects are advanced and many accomplishments are commendable in this kind of leadership.

1.2 Supportive Leadership---The foci of this style are the members. This is the type of leader who always allow explorations of their followers and support them in their own projects. Most often, it is the trial and error class of leadership because it is not directed toward one goal. However, enhancement of members are given enough time and resources.

1.3 Inspirational Leadership---My style is more related to this approach. I am a leader who will not strictly implement my regulations but will stand as a model and mentor to my colleagues. I want them to admire me and make me an example of their excellence and someday let them dream to be half like me. I believe this is the type of leadership that suits me. Without disregard to the other three, many people will find it wrong to be an inspirational leaders when they are believing in individual uniqueness.

1.4 Delegative leadership---When a leader is very convenient with his members, due to long period of partnership, they are confident to delegate a work to their members. My theory is this, delegational leaders always start as supportive leaders. When they already know that their members can fly using their own wings, they will let them do a project on their own.

2. Leadership is all about Quantity [Ask "Which"]
While it is true that leaders should focus on the quality of leadership, we still cannot deny the fact that life is full of choices. You always decide. A very very good leader is a decisive leader. One sage said a long time ago, "Battles are won not because of the number of warriors and weapons but because of the committed decision of a leader." We cannot separate life from alternatives. As a leader, it is your prerogative and obligation to select for your members. Your decision will always give impact to the lives of your people.

3. Leadership is all about Time [ Ask "When"]
A good leader understands that he will not always stay in power. A leadership with time table is the leadership with action. This too shall pass, says the carmelengo before crowning the Pope. Everything is transitory. A leader must be conscious of the days that pass and the day when he will pass the torch to another person.

4. Leadership is all about Place [ Ask "Where"]
A leader is always at the right place at the right time. His timing is very important. A leader smokes only in the smoking area. He parks in the proper lot and he eats in the restaurant not in the office. A good leader meets his corporates in a conference room and not in the toilet room. A good leader understands the places he has to be at a certain occasion. If your leader fails to do it. He is a dog, because only dogs urinate in sidewalks. Leaders don't do that.

5. Leadership is all about Posture [ Ask "How"]
I will not elect a leader who slouches in his seat during conferences. Neither will you. I remember in the Book of Judges, before choosing the armies, Gideon watched how the men of Israel drink in a river. I believe posture is an important aspect of our personality. If you are son of the Most High you should stand with reputation and dignity. When I attended a leadership training 2006 to be exact, the speaker gave a quotation and it says "Lie down with your wealth, Sit down with your problems, Stand for your boss, kneel for your people" Your posture will tell your people when to move and when to alert themselves. I will leave you another sms message; Make it sure leaders that when All of them are sitting, you are standing. When all of them are standing, you stands out. When all of them are standing out...make sure that you are outstanding.

6. Leadership is all about Habits
If in quality you have to ask what, in quantity you have to ask which of these, in time you ask when, place you ask where, posture you ask how... this one will tell you about the leader himself. So far, it is the only category that will let you ask "who" the leader is. The question is who. Leadership is all about Habits. your habit is who you are. If you want to know who is the leader, watch his habit. Everything starts with our thought. What you always think is what you will say. What you always say is what you will do. What you always do becomes your habit. Your habit becomes your character. And fortunately [or unfortunately] your character leads to your destiny. You see the pattern, from thoughts to words to action to habits to character and to destiny.Be careful what you think. Guard what you say. They might become your habits. And I tell you, if the thought is still in your mind you have the power over it. However, once it becomes a habit you do not have any power over it. That is why you see people telling you they like to change but they just cannot. A friend who likes to quit smoking and really willed to stop it but cannot? Have you seen one? You know why they can't? I'll tell you the truth. YOUR HABITS ARE 50,000 TIMES MORE POWERFUL THAN YOUR DESIRES. Because that is already you whom you want to change. If you want to change a habit, change a person. Now watch out what are the habits of the candidates you want to elect as leaders? Leadership is all about habits!

7. Leadership is all about Relationship
You are who you are with. Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are. No two persons will walk together if they did not agreed to. Leaders, remember this. You are only as good as your weakest member {Mark Anthony Carpio}. If you are joining a group of dancers absolutely you love dancing too. There are two ways on how to know who the leader is. the first is habits. the second is relationship. If you join a group of sporty people, you must have something common with them. People will judge you according to the people you are with. Leaders, you must establish a very good relationship to your members. Communication is vital. Please relate. A leader who lacks relations is a weak leader. No network means no work. And no work, no pork. Leadership is all about relationship.

Careers for Solo Performances

Lately there are two songs I am hearing bearing the word solo on their title. One from Aiaz and teh other from Jason Derulo.

Wanna go solo? I just remember I wrote something about solo performances in an article I posted on facebook. I quote;

"A person blessed with a beautiful voice is standing in a point with a vast of opportunities surrounding him or her. An ocean of chances or a horizon of confusing choices. it is up to the person to decide. Even beautiful speaking voice which lacks musicality can be any of the following;

1. Computer generated and telephone prompter
2. TV Animation and Korean soap dubber
3. Event and beauty pageant host
4. Narrator for documentary films
5. Boxing ring announcer
6. Basketball Commentator
7. Radio Newscaster
8. Voice over for Hollywood Movie Trailer

How much more is waiting for a singer? I would like to cite a few of them which nonetheless the most fulfilling to vocal musicians pursuing a career.

1. Recording Industry --- the most highly paid voice performers can found in the recording industry. Every solo singers are aspiring to have an album of their own. At one point, those artists become famous and their success is truly worth mentioning.

- Rock Music = Amidst the presence of Rock bands, David Cook and Chris Daughtry were able to find their places in the gamut of Rock carrying their names alone.

- RNB Music = Justine Bieber at the age of 16 reached the peek of his career by becoming the youngest and the hottest solo RNB and soul singer of today's world.

- Alternative Dance = What seems to be impossible was made possible by Lady Gaga. Just when we thought no one can redeem the sexy image left by Cristina Aguilera and Madonna, she proved everyone wrong by singing us Poker Face.

2. Hotel and Broadway

A lot of singers are only looking for a living and not fame. To sustain their lives by having a regular income while working is for me one of the noble ways to earn money. these musicians make use of music as their profession. They want to entertain people, they are happy with their job, I guess that is enough. I don't see it as a source of bread alone but an option to practice a casual artistry while making it amusing and glamorous.

the advantage of this kind is that they are stagnant. they don't get famous and then end up nothing. There is an assurance for their worth. RENT and Cats are broadway musicals enjoyed by many Filipinos. Who would say that Jazz lovers are only in hotels?

3. Classical Music

In America alone, there are hundreds of thousands students enrolling every year to enter Colleges of Music majoring in voice. Their main issue is the classicals. By classical music I mean any of these three faces; Orchestra Music, Choral Music and Opera Classics. Their opportunities lies mostly in teaching music after taking Masters degree, joining choral groups and because we are talking of solo performances, the Opera music. Opera music is something that showcases the strength of the human voice particularly that of a solo performer.

Whatever case there may be, whether singers are pursuing records, broadways, or opera [or others which are not mentioned here] they have to train themselves and correct their malpractices in singing. A vocal coach is necessary if singers really crave for a brighter future in their careers. "

Thou Whom My Heart Adoreth

Minsan isang hapon na sobrang boring...

Thou whom mine heart adoreth
Thou whom dawn's sunshine commenceth
In awe my soul wilt ignite
Destined to love thee day and night.

If empty gardens combined they might,
Thy splendid pow'r in beauty unite
Wilt make roses blossom in the field
So this Sir of grief in joy be filled.

Grasses in meadows and streams of dream hast fail
Yet mine flame of love to thee won't fade.
Death may quell a life deceased,
Yet this heart to thee alone can n'er cease.

Tuesdays watching Ellen is not enough
Until again I glance thy face in laugh.
Oh lady so tender and sweet
When will my name thee ever twit?

Thou whom mine heart adoreth
Thou art this knight's amulet
Thy sorrow hast turned blue facebook to violet
For thy gladness willing am I to face death.

Soul intertwined we'll ever be
Centuries can't separate ye unto me
Lips are sealed but ours are free
Ay mine queen I live to see
Princes and princesses until they're three.
As we grow old holding thee tirelessly
Holding ye even 'til eternity
Measure this love is foolish of me,
And if mine life wilt end and flee
Let angels utter what mine email's key
A lifetime with thee can never, in sonnet be.

Learning To Recognize Identity

I am always in relation to whatever. I am son of..., born in, a graduate of.., and bla bla bla. People are always in relation to things and person. I cannot even grasp the identity of the self. It is something so hard to explain. The me can be my iPod, my body, my dreams, and my hopes, or may be my being a music director. They associate me with the piano, or the editing softwares I am using, or the console. Sometimes people think of me when they hear the word "conductor", "recording","DJ", "Baton", "Turntable", or many other related to me.

People can describe me as intelligent, thin, noisy, loud, expressive, ex-sem, aspiring cadet but never was. These words all speaks of me. Nonetheless, I can't really figure out the way I am. Yet sometimes we have to be content of what people say about us. How they knew us is probably the fact about us. the fact about me is those that people say about me.

From time to time, we need to do reality checks about our lives. About who we are. That is what the master shinobi Jiraiya did in his whole lifetime--searching for who he really was and his destiny. I know we are not destined. We are the ones who creates it. But the more we become adept to ourselves the more we lessen the complexities that entangles us.

Jesus in the Gospel really wants to know how people recognize Him and His identity. he wants to know if they are aware of His mission. He wants to know if they are aware of His destiny. And when Peter pronounced that He is the Messiah, the Christ of God,He explained that He will have to suffer. He explained to them the identity of His followers. He explained to them that it will be very impossible to follow Him without knowing who He really is and what the mission entails.

He said, those who are willing to follow Him must take up their crosses, deny themselves and leave everything as they follow the Lord.

It is by way saying a call to discipleship introduced by means of the first HR experience. Jesus is the greatest HR officer. Everytime a person applies for a job the HR manager has to ask him or her about how much she or he know him/herself. When faced in a delicate, emergency or depressing situation... what would the applicant do. It is a sort of interview and a review of what the person learned in the past years he or she is sent to mission searching for an answer like Jeriaya, like the 72 discples, like me.

It is one way for the evangelist to tell us that in the end Jesus will be asking me this question. How much do you know me back when you were on earth? A question Jesus will ask me and by that time I must have known Him more than I know myself.

Acoustic 5

TV 5 is airing TV 5 Specials presenting JC de Vera.

Parang jinggle for a triumphant station calling us all "Kapatid".

While some of teh Koreanovela na ini-air nila ay acoustic ang music backgrounds.

Gusto ko yung kanta ni Sabrina, "A Thousand Miles" soothing talaga.

Then we have Krissy and Ericka with the single cover of The Corrs' "Runaway" para sa Sweet Honey. I like it!

Science Is Not Enough

For the past century, science attemped to epitomize that she is the sole bearer of truth. Though she was never so successful in doing so.

In 2005, a shocking news rocked the world when we learned that Pluto si not anymore a part of the solar system planet lists. For so long a time, people and students believed this truth.

Yesterday I went to the school to check if my techers are still teching like they were when I was elementary and there I came to remember about this issue. I kept asking myself how teachers are adjusting in teaching it and how they will face once a question like "Was science wrong?" is raised.

Half heartedly we can say that science also failed us. In 1960, scientists argued that vegetable oil is teh healthiest oil in the earth. But after several year, forty years to be exact, symptoms of illneses caused by what we--quote an dunquote--believed to be healthy oil started to appear.

Now we found out that virgin coconut oil which can be found in the Philippines and not in America is the healthiest oil. Was it about the marketing dillema that they declared vegetable oil to be the healthiest?

There is such a term as pseudo science. That which attempts to be a real science but never was successful in doing so. How can we diffrentiate it when the real science taht we know failed us.

It is tantamount to saying that even pure science as we know it is not the sole bearer of truth. The same thing as when the Vatican II declared that the Church is not the only bearer of truth.

There is a criterion to the truth. That we have to search with faith and not only with human capabilities. For when human prowess ceases, the divine assistance interferes. That we need to understand.

In our world of today, we need to admit that there is a scientific quagmire inspite of all the technological advancements. Growth in technology does not emblem the prolifiration of science neither the growth of human reasoning. Actually, studies show that the more peopel are into visual learning like television, computer and cinema, the more there is less a time to be imaginative and curious.

Our science brought us to complacency and mediocrity and liits us to our healthy ways of discontentment. What shall we do about it?

Day to Mitigate

There are certain dates in the calendar which mystically own special spot in ones heart. Some of them I just don't know why.

This day is one. Hindi ko talaga alam bakit kelangan ko itong i-treat as special for me. So I have to choose the day.

Only today, nang magopen ako ng facebook accunt ko at makit ako sa home page na birthday pala ngayon ni Sheena, that i realized why. Although a lot of important things already happened in the past.

I like this day. For me it is one of the most memorable dates of 2010. A day of reconciliation and ammendments on our parts. Both parties nagkasundo na. I don't have to interfeere with them anymore. I will just stay away from the one I truly love. The one I loved for the longest time now. kailangan ko tanggapin ang lahat ng sinabi niya. Perhaps we are not meant to be.

Though distant from one another, our cell phones paved teh way fro us to communicate and express our apoligies and sincerities. We are friends. Just as everyone wants to call it after the quits.

You see, downloading almost 10 songs from the internet nang napakabilis, isn't that wonderful. My meeting with Cyrus, an old classmate, that was melodious. A new remote control for my DVD which allowed me to enetertain myself for the rest of the afternoon when you have to endure so much heat coming from the sun. Mas mainit pala pag June. And unlike what happened in 2006 na umulan noong 2-3pm, hindi ganun ang nangyari.

Few minutes noon before 7pm, nasa Pag Asa Street ako sa Liliw, waiting for her to unload from the jeepney. Hindi ako nawalan ng pagasa. She came kasama si Mabelle. Ganun talaga. Now it is our day again. sobrang masaya ako na finally hindi na siya galit after this five day uneasiness namin.

Hindi nauulit yung sequence of weather. Happy Birthday Sheena !!!!

Desert Is Now For Movies

Alot of movies nowadays were shot in the desert. Two of Hollywood's primer films had their scenes in the desert. I don't know kung napanuod na ng marami ang Prince of Persia at Sex in the City. Pareho silang may mga eksena sa disyerto. At first, my question is, crazy ba ang mga producers at directors nito. Why the desert? They told some reports that they have to bring tons of bottled water, hair shampoos, and other cooling stuffs kasi sobrang init at natutuyo ang mga buhok nila bukod sa lalamunan.

Ang dami talaga ang natutuwa sa adventures ng apat na magkakaibigan and how their love for one another becomes a conflict with loving men. Although kung bablikan ko yung desert experiences, mas nakaklamang pa rin ang pagod ng mga characters sa Prince of Persia. Here is what Rowena Joy Snachez has to say between the two;

In “Sex and the City 2,” sex is still sex and the city shifts from New York to Abu Dhabi. Although it is interesting to note that the movie was actually shot in Morocco.

Picking up two years after the first installment's release, the fab four---Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis)---set off to the Middle Eastern country to “get away” from all the issues hounding their respective lives:

Carrie struggles to keep the “sparkle” in her marriage with Big (Chris Noth); Samantha tries to defy aging and to up her libido by taking pills, pills, and more pills; Miranda gets incensed with a discriminating boss; and Charlotte, now a mother of two, becomes paranoid that her hubby will leave her for their braless nanny, Erin.

“SATC 2” still has some of the fun, wit, and that sense of warm and celebratory friendship that filled its predecessor; plus more glamour and cameos Liza Minelli -- who sang and danced “Single Ladies” at the girls’ gay buds’ wedding -- Miley Cyrus, and Penelope Cruz.

However, the film fails at leaving a memorable footprint in the desert sand. The film’s unapologetic attempt at empowering women at the expense of another culture is utterly tactless. What travelers usually do is immerse themselves in a new culture, and not mock it.

Kim delivers the funniest performance but one that is cultural-insensitive sometimes. These include violating the law by kissing a guy at an Abu Dhabi beach, and lifting “the finger” and screaming “sex” like it’s a sacred chant around conservative Arab men.

With scenes like these, it’s no wonder that the Abu Dhabi government rejected the request to shoot parts of the film in their generally traditional city. The production team could've simply and directly referenced Morocco and that could’ve spared the film a little criticism at least.

“Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”: Breezier than sand storm

Another video game finds its way to the big screen with “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” an exciting, fun, and breezy tale about the possibilities and consequences of turning back the clock's hands.

Originally created by Jordan Mechner back in 1989, the movie version is helmed by “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” director Mike Newell, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (“Pirates of the Carribean”).

Beyond lead star Jake Gyllenhaal’s drool-worthy six-pack abs and Tigger-like bounces, leaps, and runs from one roof to another, is a story set at the heart of historical Persia. Gyllenhaal’s Prince Dastan ventures into a quest of protecting a magic dagger from falling into the hands of his power-hungry, double-crossing uncle, Nizam (Ben Kingsley). Guarding that magic dagger, which has the power of revisiting time and altering history, is the beautiful princess of Alamut, Tamina (Gemma Arterton). Oh, doesn’t the sand smell of love?

Two hours inside the theater and it certainly doesn’t feel like forever, thanks to the film’s breezy pace, vibrant and sepia-toned cinematography, and sleek visual effects. The story may not be that unusual, but the visual feast the film offers more than makes up for it.

Jake’s Dastan is heroic and, at times, larger than life, yet his eyes are filled with wonder and hunger for adventure, just like when he was that little street urchin who defended his fellows from the king’s soldiers so bravely that King Sharaman (Ronald Pickup) took him in for his own son. This film gives the actor the credibility to star not just in heavy dramas like “Brokeback Mountain,” but also in a fantasy film like this one.

His pairing with Gemma works although the chemistry is not that palpable. Worth-mentioning, too, is Alfred Molina, whose Sheik Amar---a tax evader who seems to have a love affair with ostriches---provides the laughs.

Dahil matapos nito, makikilala talaga siya for making history.

It is very shameful that in a musical country like ours, wala pa ni isang movie na musical ang naproduce for the past 3 decades. Here is what a foreign fanatic in the name of Olivier Ochanine has to say about Emir, yes si Maestro Olivier mismo...

Last night, the gala viewing of EMIR, a Filipino film produced in conjunction with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, took place at Mega Mall in Pasig. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was in attendance, as the film was made possible in part with help from the Presidential Social Fund (and also since the film's inception is primarily due to GMA's experience in Dubai meeting a prince whose personal experience is retold in Emir).

The film proves to be a success on many aspects, and while the movie is a little long for my taste (about 2 hours and 15 minutes), the music is varied enough that the movie remains captivating, even for someone (me) who has a very limited to non-existent understanding of tagalog - unfortunately, subtitles are limited only to the sections spoken in Ilocano or Arabic. Helpful is the fact that the cast is comprised of talented actors/singers/dancers.

Without getting too specific about the story, as the movie will not officially open until tomorrow in theaters nationwide, I can tell you that, although the story line is quite simple (yes, I actually corroborated my take on it with someone who knows tagalog well), the movie works well because of the balanced combination of music and action. At no time in the movie did I feel that time was dragging or that the 'rhythm' was off.

Oddly, I am not a great fan of movie theaters, but last night, EMIR captivated my attention from beginning to end. Except for a 5-minute scene which seems a bit inutile, if cute (to be vague, it's a scene involving international travel - you'll see what I mean), the flow of the various scenes is very well done.

As for the cast, they were well chosen. The lead actress (Frencheska Farr), obviously very pretty, is kept looking fairly 'simple' for most of the story, which is nice, since this movie is not a movie about Filipino royalty, but instead about OFWs - or overseas Filipino workers. While the movie's title seems to hint that the story is possibly centered around an emir (which, in a sense, is partly true), it is really more about a group of Filipinos working in an Arab household, with Amelia (Farr) assigned as special caretaker to the young son of an emir (this young son becoming a secondary subject for much of the movie).
As for the rest of the cast, most have great supportive roles and get a lot of 'mileage' with the music numbers and spoken scenes. This also adds to the movie's rhythm, as the movie does not suffer imbalanced saturations of music over spoken word (I find musicals that are strictly sung to be a little off-putting, especially if the music is not stellar).

Speaking of the music, I was pleasantly surprised. Not knowing an abundance of Filipino music yet, the musical numbers/arrangements are quite attractive. The orchestral arrangements are played by members of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (and I must say I was extremely pleased and proud of their work on this movie). The arranger for this movie is Chino Toledo, and after hearing the work done on this, I look forward to checking out his own compositions. The singing, for the most part, is excellent. Save one role in the movie (whose singer unfortunately couldn't seem to reach some notes with decent intonation), the singers perform like stars, which is nice because their acting is also quite good.

As for the filming itself - that has to be one of the absolute highlights. The movie was filmed both in the Philippines and in Morocco. The film quality is beautiful, which is perhaps due mostly to the use of the RED camera, which I'm told has not been used much in Filipino movies to date. The camera work (angles/movement pacing) is also stellar and itself adds to the action - it is clear that the movie's director, Chito Rono, is no neophyte to the field of directing (he has, after all, directed almost three dozen movies/TV productions).

In short, this movie really is a good way to spend slightly over 2 hours in a movie theater. I came out of the theater wanting more Filipino music and movies. Actually, it is rare for me to want to see a movie twice, but I may very well be seeing this one again later this week.

Whatever it is that enetered directors' minds, nakakatuwa pa ring isipin na ok na ok na ang industry sa mga bagong pag sho-showcase lalo na ng isang bahagi ng mundo na hindi masyadong puntahin. Ano sa next time, Antartica naman!

Always Ready To Approve You

GOSPEL READING Luke 7:36-50

One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee's house, and took his place at table. And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner." And Jesus answering said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he answered, "What is it, Teacher?" "A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they could not pay, he forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?" Simon answered, "The one, I suppose, to whom he forgave more." And he said to him, "You have judged rightly." Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little." And he said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, "Who is this, who even forgives sins?" And he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

Commentary

Every person close to me would agree when I say that my greatest passion is to do digital music remixes. I can spend all day long before the pc and befriend any audio editing software. I am fond of using the Steinberg WaveLab 5.0 to do my own music specially disco progressive music which can be used in dance parties and other social events.

What I really like about WaveLab is that anytime I make mistake, it will not ruin any of my masterpiece. I don't need to be feeling guilty all my life because of one mistake. There is a chance to delete unnecessary soundwaves which can affect the project's overall characteristics. Even if I make mistake in my recording [or in looping and fading in], there is only slight chance for failure. I can erase my wrongdoings in the audio lab using the cut and delete button. At the end of the day, my track sounds pleasing and intelligent without any memory of my mistakes and ugly recordings.

Aside from being a full blood musician, I am also a loving and tenderly caring uncle to my niece. I have a wonderful relationship with her. She is personally dear to me. She is not a perfect sister nor a perfect daughter nor a perfect child. She is an ordinary little girl entering her puberty. What makes her extraordinary is my perspective about her, my attitude towards her, and my huge love that can cover her mistakes. She just celebrated her 12th birthday last Friday and I am pretty certain that as she grows, tehre will be more disappointments on my part. She will make wrong decisions, she will be more hard headed, more disobedient, more experimental, more rebellious. There is a great chance that her bad habits may blossom but I don't care. I ma ready for that and as an uncle I am prepared to give my pardon right away.

I believe the abovementioned analougues are also true to God. He makes everything wonderful and it is just easy for Him to erase errors of our humanities. He only see the perfect master piece and no matter how many times people stumble, He can make at all anew and forget all the ugly ones. God already made a gigantic room for our mistakes. Look, Jesus said to the prostitute woman "Your sins are forgiven" and it is like saying that it is alright he will forget that. He even told them a parable about two persons owing a creditor 50 and the other 500 dinarii. Instead of making them pay, the debt was forgiven. So illogical. How was that possible? It is like saying "Ok this is your debt and look I am erasing it and all gone." Jesus is telling us, "It is ok to stumble. It is ok to fail sometimes. I can undo that!"

You know what, Jesus is just so excited and eager to undo all the tears from your eyes. He is saying "Look, the Bible starts with a garden and everything was ruined but before you close the Bible, see, I give you a new City of Jerusalem so everything must be restored to its original state of happiness."

Just when everyone is ready to condemn the woman, here is Jesus ready to console her. It is alright to enter and wash his feet, he did not shy away from the woman but accepted and approved her and her deeds. Simon saw her past. Jesus saw her present and her future. Simon is only after the external good deeds but Jesus is after the sincere and spiritual renewal. Everyone is indebted and Simon forgets that. the one who was forgiven much is loving the Master much.Just like an audio project it is easy for God to delete and undo. he is after the future outcome of the work and not about the mistakes. Just like an uncle ready to forgive the niece, God is so loving that He already made room for our mistakes.

Too Special A Day To Accept Defeat

I have always reminded my self that every June 11 is a lucky date. That's all I know until today.

I am so excited to begin this day. Imagine I woke up early at 4:50 just because of excitement. It is Shaira Mae's birthday. Her 12th year in the universe. I do the morning rituals. Prayed longer. Exercise routines were done with ample time. And still I have time to attend the 6am Mass. Guess what? I didn't know that Shaira's birthday will fall on the feast of Sacred Heart. So I was surprised I accidentally attended the mass for the Sacred Heart because of my excitement for Shaira's day. After that I went home and had my breakfast. I slept after that.

_____________________________

I also glanced some of Lara Faye's new photos. iTO ANG PINAKAMALI KO SA ARAW NA ITO. Since, I only browse her account only during special holidays, hindi ako updated sa nangyayari sa kanya. Ayoko naman kasing maging stalker. And that's when I knew na mayroon nang iba. Nakit ako sa profile na "In relationship with Ronel" Oh paarang hidni ko kakayanin ang nabasa ko. So I checked and checked at nalaman ko ang totoo. Sila na nga. Bakit sa birthday pa ni Shaira?

Last day of my yes and no sa GFI. And after a serious at madugong converstaion namin ni mama, isa lang desisyon--No. Hindi daw. So I didn't get a job. Wala kaming 8,900Php na pang down as capital.

She is the latest evictee sa PBB Teen Clash.

Out of all that happened, birthday pa rin ni Shaira ngayon so to
Shaira Mae, Baby...
Happy Happy Birthday from the bottom of my heart!!!!!

Season Finale of Glee; Two Thumbs Up!

AND YES I AM A FAN OF GLEE

Sometimes I watch the show to appreciate music and artistry but sometimes I watch it to envy the gifted singers in character. Glee club members can relate to the lives of the characters, in particular Lea Michelle who is portraying the role of Rachel Berry. First, let us consult what Webster has to say about the word "glee" lexically. Glee is a noun which means a musical entertainment bringing joy and hilarity. In some music books, it is defined as a part of a song commonly sung by three different male voices [counter tenor, tenor, and baritone]. Definitely, the latter i snot the one applied in the show but the former. Though purposely made for amusement and entertainment, the show accomplished more than that by bringing practical lessons and inspiration for young adults and teenage life.

I really have no plan watching it in the beginning. But since I am an avid of American Idol and Glee follows after that, I have no escape. How can I when all they have to do is ... sing? I didn't even noticed that gradually I am liking it and as we know TV shows like this are addictive. There was one time I was suppose to change station after American Idol but my heart said no. That's when I found out I am glued on Glee.

Hope that in the next season she will give birth. That I think is the longest pregnancy on television. Anyway, the massive viewership of the show guided it to be one of the highest rating show aired by Fox. I am sure a lot of us who are into Glee are downloading their songs in iTunes every week. What do I have to say about the music? There must be something right?

About the Music

Well, their voices are excellent. I do not know why Adam Lambert was not a part of this season{as we all know he is from theater before} but all I can say is that they are stunning. The arrangements are comparable to that of Rent and Equus. There is a bright piano somewhere and an electric guitar to add neo formality. I like those instrumentations. And who will not like the arrangement of Don't Stop Believing? Who? I said who? It is perfectly a combination of vocal ensemble fantasy and 80's quasi new wave efforts. I am astounded. This is the kind of music that attracts new Afraelay members to join us. We really have to innovate and make the lyrics something believable and sincere and something our youth can relate to. I have seen a good cover video of the song in youtube and I am sharing it

How about the one everyone is talking about? Yes, I am pertaining to "Somebody to Love". An example of the electric guitar, bright piano, and vocal ensemble combination. I do not know really who stood out in that arrangement. It is totally, entirely, completely [oh tautology} balanced. What we want to hear we can hear after the murdering done by the AI finalists. That is what 24 million American wants to hear. I am sure Tuesday nights, which is Wednesday morning here in the Philippines, is a musical day for many of the viewers. And I guess I have to share a video of that rendition by the casts.

About the Finale Episode

Well it is fine. It can be described in one word---Journey. It is a journey which temporarily closed for a moment and we have to wait until the next season. I hope that Charice, our Philippine pride, can join in the next season because a lot are yearning for that to happen. Although we have to admit that her vocal stylings are not meant for a broadway class music program but who can say so? Even experts may be wrong in their predictions. None of the storytelling is perfectly surprising. Actually it is a typical season finale. What made that episode special is the rehearsely-drawn characters, unparalleled sense of humor and the breathtaking musical performances to be exact. These things stayed us away from the plot and the imperfections of the scenes.

Well, is there a hope that a more vivid characterization and explicit drama may be viewed the next season? That is a question still. Can Filipinos be able to give such flavor to TV history? They already did. With the successful screening of Emir I think that will make avenues for musical and broadway shows in the country. It is time for Filipino arrangers to arrange smooth dialogues which can be pronounced in a musical manner. For those who think thyey can't get enough of Glee, they are coming u with a prequel book and an audio book which includes their songs. Isn't that great? I want to hear their version of Rihanna's "Take A Bow".

Independence Falsities

There are actually notions that June 12 is not really the Independence Day but July 04. Let's see what I have to say---
