Disappointments

Naniniwala ako sa kasabihang In the absence of big things, small things becomes big to small minds... at dahil I have a great mind wow ⎝⏠⏝⏠⎠ hindi ako mabilis mainis sa mga simpleng bagay lang.

Akala ko ngayon. i promised her na hindi ako mawawala. Grabe! I really had a bad day ang I hope tomorrow everything's gonna be alright.

I should have written down the list of things thta disappoints me pero mukhang wala ako sa tamang disposisyon to write about that. here are some things you can do to ease the feelings of disappointments.

1. try to listen to a jazz or a dancable progressive or electronic music.

2. Cook your favorite dish

3. Try to edit the photo of your love in photoshop or yung kabaligtaran someone yu hate and make it katawatawa.

4. try to read a book that delights you from time to time

Attachments

Today, the fifth year death anniversary ni kuya Mike... parang kailan lang pumunta kami ni Mama sa mga pinsan ko para makiramay and now it's been five years after.

Can I congratulate Stacy for a job well done... graduate na rin siya sa wakas and a sign that I am not getting any younger. Today is her 21st birthday. The hardest part of the graduation day is when you realize you have to leave a lot. The younger attitude you have to put aside, the irresponsibility, the immaturity, lahat yan pati na yung mga tindera sa P. Naval at yung mga lumot sa lumang building ng UST... lahat yun iiwan mo na.

As I began reflecting after seeing the pins na tinatanggal ni Stacy sa hood ng toga niya, narealize ko na talagang ang hirap maatach and then let go. It is like watching a TV series na kapag natapos masisira yung routine ng buhay mo kasi may kulang na. Attachments make us complete but when all gone leaves us half empty.

I can't be attached to a material thing because it banishes. I can't be too attach with relationships because they tend to be perishing though the feelings may remain, theperson can't be here forever with you.

The King and the Denials

This Sunday, we are invited by the Scripture repertoire to reflect on the passion of our lord Jesus. As a stage and music director, I am always dreaming of portraying the passion narrative into stage act. I know many are also fond of watching it on screen or even on sinakulos in front of the Church. But more than being a spectator, we are called to be identified as somebody present in the event and by that we will reflect on the lessons that Jesus wants to teach us. Here are the readings;

INTRO GOSPEL Matthew 21:1-11
FIRST READING Isaiah 50:4-7

PSALM Psalm 22:8-9, 17-20, 23-24
SECOND READING Philippians 2:6-11
GOSPEL Matthew 26:14 - 27:66

Commentary

In the sufferings of Jesus, there is a common denominator I kept on hearing as it reverberates on my mind. I believe that the nuclear component of the Passion of Our Lord is the denial he received from different people and situations.

First, Jesus was denied of obedience. Always remember that for us Catholics the suffering begins with the Agony in the Garden patterned after the Rosary. In Gethsemane, Jesus requested the apostles to stay awake but their fleshes are weak. Let us Pray.

"Lord we have a tendency to be asleep and unalert.
There is a tendency for us to be stubborn and dis-
obedient to your will. Show us your perfect will so
that we will not fall into your permissive will and so
to avoid temptations in the future"

Second, Jesus was denied of company and association. I have experienced to be denied by my classmates and imagine how much suffering it is for Jesus being denied by His best friend. Peter denied Jesus not just once but three times. During the time that Jesus really needs a friend, Peter wasn't there and only the beloved disciple was there with Mary. When my father died, I really need a friend to cheer me up. When I came home from Manila after I learned about my father's death my best friend was already there cooking. He assisted my family even before I came home. I was consoled with the presence of my friend but Jesus saw his friends running away one by one. Peter's denial is just too much. Let us Pray

"Lord, make us never leave you.
We want to be by Your side all
the days of our lives. bestow unto
us the gift to stand in your Word
and be firm to it. This we ask
through Christ our Lord. Amen"

Third, Jesus was denied of an hones and fair trial. I took up Philippine Government and Jurisprudence under Mrs. Aurora Mantele and every law students should know that the most mocked and dirtiest trial was that of Jesus'. He was prejudged even before the trial. The Sanhedrin must convene in the Sanhedrin hall but the tried Jesus in Annas' house and the trial was done 3:00am in the morning. No one in his right mind will hold a trial for an accused before dawn. Jesus was denied of a counsel and a personal witness. Jesus was brought to Pilate and just when we thought it is lawful that he be under the mercy of the governor who represents Roman authority, it was not. Pilate was under pressure of the religious leaders and the people and he did not decide according to legal paradigm but it was driven by fear and that is unethical.

"Lord, we pray for lawmakers and for
law enforcers and magistrates who
upholds justice. May justice and mercy
reign in our country."

In my 9 years of Christian ministry, I was able to hear a lot of stories about suffering people. I discovered and concluded that there are only two things tha make suffering very very unbearable.

1. To suffer with no reason
2. To suffer alone.

If you are in a rocky situation right now. Remmber you are suffering for a reason and you are not alone. Jesus suffered with you. If there is any assurance we can have from Jesus, it is that Jesus already walked that rocky roadyou are passing right now. There is no shortcut to heaven. Only one way, Jesus' way. if you will select the easy way, I don't think you will meet Jesus at the finish line. Because Jesus took the way of the cross. Be confident that Jesus is at the end of the road waiting for you becasue he did pass the way are crossing right now.

Afraelay Vocal Ensemble

While anticipating for the 2nd anniversary of Afraelay Vocal Ensemble, I decided to put the initial paper plans I've submitted to the sponsors and supporters of Afraelay. It is nice to be reminded over and over about the original aspirations of musical geniuses. It will always be the stance of Afraelay no matter what.

Rationale

To find people with potential skills, gather them and train them is one of the noble tasks that an artist like me has to accomplish. It has been our dream to develop persons in their chosen crafts, maximize their capacities and bring them to excellence, to make them the Philippine pride by sharing their talents not only domestically but globally. To make the international arena recognize us as one of the best nations because in here resides the bests. To bring people with skills in the limelight so they could be appreciated and find out what is more meaningful in the aesthetic domain is the aspiration that must not remain a dream.

In line with the aforementioned ideals, I intended to step one notch higher and make something to fulfill these noble ambitions. Though unequipped and supported only by courage and hope, I have dared to make a move so that the world may hear these people. I, myself, initiated the “Afraelay Vocal Ensemble” as a humble answer to the artistic demand of life. The Afraelay Vocal Ensemble opens a leeway for untrained singers, potential soloists, frustrated performers, art lovers, and alike to express themselves, show people what they have got and improve the more. It opens for them a portal to the mainstream, recording industry, purposive quest in life, and friendship. Afraelay offers an alternative outlet for the youth so that they can learn more, bond with other people, grab a once-in-a-lifetime experience to perform as a choral member and to prevent themselves in joining notorious organizations and fraternities, escape boredom, avoiding involvements into vices. On the other hand, it gives an opportunity for mature members to hone their leadership skills, discover another world far from their careers [if they are professionals but not yet choir members], and to extend their musical worlds by joining another one [if they already have a choir before].

Thus, Afraelay Vocal Ensemble is a prestigious institution by itself. It has its own goals and policies and it also has purposes which must be met so as not to frustrate the members. Afraelay Vocal Ensemble aims to give another honor for Filipinos by sharing to the world its talented sons and daughters; faithful to its project in preserving and innovating the musical culture, develop a sense of camaraderie and oneness, give an outlet for the youth, and to elevate the cultural, ethical, national, and aesthetic consciousness of the members and of the audiences.

Core Values and Principles

Compliance

To fulfill a given tasks in the right course of time and meet deadlines are both disciplines that is inculcated in the heart of every members of Afraelay. To exact the demand of the organization and the choirmasters is very crucial as a functioning member.

Credibility

No one in the world gains success with tainted reputation and dignity. Afraelay sets a better example by their believable actions and songs. Afraelay cares for the image of Filipino performers and for the image of the musical association empowering her.

Eminence

Afraelay strives to be the best. No one contended by a topsy-turvy work or performance. In as much as we want to amuse, we too are driven by the ambition to amaze and to inspire. To have a long lasting prestige and to be recognized by all artists of our time is absolutely an assignment of anyone who wishes to be an Afraelay member.

Fealty

The maintenance of faithful members who takes pride of the organization where they are in is truly an overwhelming comment that every principal conductor are waiting for. The undying service and allegiance of every member etched a flattering remark in the hearts of the organizers who enabled the Afraealay Vocal Ensemble to be what it is. The Afraelay strives to be different and incomparable to others so as to make it easier for people to distinguish its inorganic character and visions.

Patriotism/Nationalism

The love for our motherland must never be ignored if Afraelay wants to subsists forever. One of the very reason why the organizers established Afraelay is to make the dignity of Filipino artists be-known worldwide. The Afraelay has a task to compete and to perform with choral groups from different countries and culture, in this way we will promote the Filipino culture too.

Self Evaluation

Being true to ourselves and with the guidance of given measures and required standards we want to be capable of becoming the best by being responsible of ourselves. Giving the best requires internal reflection and self enhancement. The ensemble is always at work of criticizing herself and striving for improvement, she carries the burden of the members so as to be more reflexive and versatile.

Teamwork

No one can accomplish a good work by himself. It is always thru the aid of other people that we are enhanced to be better and better. Our thrust is not only for people to discover their distinct qualities as musicians and artists but also to let them acquaint with other people and establish good relationship. By these they can be in oneness and could develop camaraderie. They will find satisfaction by seeing their difference among with others and build a sense of uniformity as their primary challenge.

Zeal for Divinity

Afraelay cannot sing for herself. The choir always sings for the glory of God. We believe that it is the impersonation of the angelic hymns that we become the best. One of the assigned tasks of the groups is to do musical activities that is at the same time Godly activities. To sing during masses, carolings and other para-liturgical worships are only few vehicles for us to fulfill this primordial ascent. Afraelay strives to be a tool for evangelization.

The Kundiman Album

Last year ni-release na ng Hale yung latest album nila entitled "Kundiman"
You might as well go to a bar and perform every night impersonating the original singers.
That was in the 70's. Ang second wave is noong 1991-1996. Nagumpisa kila Paco Aris Pacuchada, then E-heads, tapos Siakol, at Rivermaya.
2005 nang sumikat ang Hale with "The Day You Said Goodnight" at "Kahit Pa" na tumabo rin sa recordings.
Good job Hale you are working for originality and that makes you unique indeed. Sana marami pang banda ang magrelease ng all original album.

Gabi na ako nakauwi sa bahay, I wasn't able to see Miley Cyrus' performance sa American Idol pero alam ko "When I Look at You" rin naman ang kakantahin niya. Good Night!

Inside the College

It is like whew! Ok talaga kasi nag-meet ulit kami ni Sir Arwin. He was leaving the University na nung magkita kami sa cafeteria. Of course I was there because of Nikka Mae.

Hence, Sir Arwin graced the day and our conversations about music is making the revolving globe stop for a while. Even earthquakes are close to unnoticeable because it was like a teacher with the disciple talking about secrets of Kung fu. I don't know but I was struck by the way they handle situations. Parang kagaya ito ng defense sa thesis sa kanila it is recital.
And speaking of recital, Jopi Vergara Diestro performed at around 6:40 pm para sa Chamber recital nila. He looked prepared with his red long sleeve suit and siyempre with the support of the family including the father Manong Agripino "Nonoy" Diestro. He perforemed Concerto for Two Cellos in G minor by Antonio Vivaldi, , and Alexander Borodin's String Quartet No. 2 in D major. Sir Arwin already enjoyed it weeks before the recital at mas nagustuhan niya yung 2 Cello ni Vivaldi.
Overall this day is a tiring day kasi nga gala sa UP ang ginawa ko. i do not if meron nang post sa youtube nung recital but soon siguor magkakaroon din yan and for the mean time I will post beneath ahhh... some videos of the aforementioned music pieces. Sana ok yun.

Dreaming with Obscurity

Sabi nila black and white daw ang panaginip. I don't think so... colored naman eh...

I don't know umiiyak siya sa isang parang kubo gabi tapos tinatawag niya yung mama niya. When I checked out the internet nalaman ko birthday pala niya ngayon.

Speaking of Birthdays, birthday din ngayon ni Paula Arnuco a good friend of mine nung high school.
She is based on Canada. Though malayo I was able to greet her a happy birthday via facebook.

Happy Birthday Paula!

Any way I was able to enjoy for the first time the American Idol Season 9 dahil kay Katie Stevens at kay Kacey James ang galing ng ginawa nilang performances ok sila.

They are persons who are also dreaming and dreaming with uncertainties and insecurities.
But what's important is our belief that dreams can come true
No matter what I will push through because that is the only way.
" I always thinkthat there is only way to do it....My Way!"

Mr. A-Z

I am more of a literal person than numerical. I almost forgot na six years na pala since I graduated highschool. Mahina talaga ako sa Math and that I admit. Birthday ni Tita Neri and I was in their house kanina kasi nga may handa and may pabasa. We were all talking about the way na isinulat ang pasyon, malalim ang mga tagalog at makata nga.

I like studying theories rather than problem solving.

Change for Hope

As far as possible, I will try to reserve Sundays for my personal reflections on Sunday Scriptures. These may not be the absolute doctrines of the Catholic Church but these are products of my fruitful contemplations pondering on the Sunday Gospel readings.
I will try to give a little bit of practical applications and some sort of Christian teachings that can be deduced from that particular narrative read in the Sunday mass. And to begin, here is today's Gospel

John 8: 1 - 11
1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple; all the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them.
3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst
4 they said to him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery.
5 Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such. What do you say about her?"
6 This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.
7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her."
8 And once more he bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.
9 But when they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the eldest, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
10 Jesus looked up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and do not sin again."

REFLECTION

To understand these Bible passages in accordance to the Season, let us try to review the Gospel readings from the first to the fourth Sunday of Lent.
On the first Sunday, Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert as He spent forty days and nights for spiritual solitude. Jesus triumphed over Satan and his three temptations. but the next Sunday Jesus was tempted once again by Peter after seeing his transfiguration. Peter said "Let us build three tents here..." as if saying "Do not go to Jerusalem because you don't need to suffer" Crucifixion is only for criminals but you are a God in splendor and majesty as presented by the metamorphosis. You don't deserve to be crucified. But Jesus answered back on the third Sunday of Lent with the statement "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered thus? I tell you No. Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Silo'am fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who dwelt in Jerusalem".

Jesus would like to tell us that suffering is not only for punishment but also for a test. His audiences from third Sunday up to now are the pharisees and scribes. Because they focus on the faults of others rather than themselves. A concrete story was given on the fourth Sunday still addressed to the pharisees and scribes. The tale of two prodigal sons. Yes! Two sons who are both in need of conversion. And since that story is for the phrs. and scribe, the stress is on the older brother who cannot forgive the younger son. Questioning his father why he prepared a banquet for the lost son, the same thing that the scribes are doing when they asked why Jesus dine with tax collectors and sinners. And so a follow up scenario is now presented by St. John.

The Gospel of John is full of Jesus encounter with women. I remember when I was still studying New testament under Fr. Gil we are dissecting the differences of the four Gospels from one another and John is full of female characters. Chapter 2 is the first scene of Jesus in Mary doing a ministry together at Cana. The Fourth chapter is about Jesus and the encounter with the Samaritan women at the well. Now here is Jesus with the sinful woman. Another is the encounter of Jesus and Martha during the raising of Lazarus and lastly the encounter of Mary Magdalene with the Risen Lord which is the reading during Easter Sunday.

The pharisees are full of condemnation in their hearts. But Jesus is full of compassion.
there is a great difference between planting and burying. the acts are the same. You put an object on the ground and leave it there. But the results are different. When you bury the object decays while when you plant, the object grows to life. Both are called "buto" in Filipino but one buto decays and another grows to life. The pharisees wants to bury the woman, Jesus wants to plant her and let her live. For as long as there is life, there is a hope for a person to change. And that Jesus is so aware of. So He gives a chance to all of us to go and bear fruit as we turn away from our evil past. The second reading tells us "Forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead" Hope so that we can change and by changing ourselves we will find more and more hope to bear much fruit.

Application
-- Have you ever felt like you are a failure? Jesus is here, telling you "I do not condemn you" Bury your sins but let the sinner live so that you can change because there is hope for you to change. Jesus loves you today more than your past!

Iba din naman yung meron kang habit of diary keeping...
You will be able to re-visit what happened yesterday, day before yesterday, last week, last month and even last year.

The Afraelay Music Circle

www.facebook.com is the largest, most holistic and fastest growing media and social networking site in the world. With membership base of approximately 48-49% of the global population as well as the most number of participation for humanitarian activities in all sorts of life. Facebook users are principally involved in either domestic or international on line and network related business.

The universe is operating in a cyber sphere where deluge of informations is rapidly accessible. Any small enterprise with noble intention and pursuit can be connected to all possible location of liberal acceptance for internet reception. Formerly unrecognized countries are now connected with Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada, and United States and at most build intimacy between people of distant places.

it is for this same reason why the Group Page of Afraelay Music Circle was born. For the scattered to be linked; for the divided to be one; and for teh small ones to be giants.

Afraelay Music Circle is a Facebook group page where all musician are binded only by their passion in music. No affiliation, no racial ties, no discriminative organization, no universities, no genres. Afraealy Music Circle enables you to interact freely with other music lovers whether they play, they sing or tehy only love collecting albums in their homes. A page where you can let your self be you without fear of being undermined bymusic dominants. A site that dovetails you and me togetehr in perfect harmonious beloningness.

It is my instinct to initiate a dream and put it, plant it, and nurture it in another's heart. Somebody to magnify the dream and now because of facebook, the possibility of putting my dreams in another vessel becomes viable. Now I have vessels!

my initial plan is to form a non-government organization of musicians which in turn will eventually become a foundation that will help music students who have financial difficulties, Filipino musicians abroad who cannot return home, old musicians who are physically ill ad in need for hospital bills. That is how noble Afraelay Music Circle was supposed to be. The problem is, given the greatness of the cause, I believe, the dream is far from possible. But after contemplating on what happened last year with Ondoy and lately on Haiti, I was able to see the huge potential of facebook to make Afraelay Music Circle a reality. Now, musicians from all over the world will be associated with one anotehr. A solo singer looking for a duet; a band looking for a lead guitarist; a student looking for music guidance; a composer looking for an arranger... all of these will never be a problem anymore. With a click of a mouse, musical quagmires can be solved. Finally, a musician without a family will soon embrace a clan. A horizon where patriarchs can share informations for young musicians looking for a straight path to tread.

Temporarily, as her creator, I will stand as the on-line music director of Afraelay Music Circle until the day we are filled with geniuses and thus our maestros will assume leadership responsibility with the page as on line administrators. I am willing to let anyone be a n administrator provided a permission is valid.

I hope that you all may enjoy interacting with other people using this page. I will be very glad to participate in discussions and on line conversations and it is my prayer that Afraelay members establish a relationship that will outrun the virtual world and make it into concrete.

May the Music be with you!

I was able to see today the Music Video of Telephone

Surprisingly, ay hindi pala because yung exhibitionism ni Lady Gaga is not anymore a surprise. Katulad nung sa Paparazzi may pagka-manhater pa rin yung dating nila dito. Gusto niya palagi yung nilalason ang lalaki. Parang pinapakita talaga yung mentality na woman over man in the 21st century. Yung tipong nilalason yung lalaki di ba ka-trayduran yun. Halos walang lalaki. Kung meron man weaker and weaker ang personalities...

Hmmmm Lady Gaga , that's not good huh!

The Paramore Spark

March 18, 2010

Every Thursday, I will make it a point to write about music.

And my first victim will be Paramore and their song "The Only Exception"

Pasensiya!

For the first time, may kakaibang drift na ginawa ang Paramore; as I listen to this song I noticed something very unfamiliar with them. I can feel the effort to repackage their instrumentation Most of tehir songs kasi are heavy kaya naman Hallie is more often [if not always] overpowered by the instrumentation. This time ginawa na nilang semi acoustic. Mas may puso although may sariling galing at kaastigan yung mga nauna. Riot is marvelous, so is "That's What You Get" tapos ang ganda rin naman nung "Caught Myself" at heavy naman yung Ignorance. pero only exception talaga yung The Only Exception. Talagang exception siya among the rest. It only proves to me na versatile ang Paramore. They could do acoustics and heavy at the same time. For me I like it. I will display the lyrics below to present the message as it is.

Paramore
The Only Exception

When I was younger
I saw my daddy cry
And curse at the wind
He broke his own heart
And I watched
As he tried to reassemble it
And my momma swore that
She would never let herself forget
And that was the day that I promised
I'd never sing of love
If it does not exist

But darlin'

You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception

Maybe I know, somewhere
Deep in my soul
That love never lasts
And we've got to find other ways
To make it alone
Or keep a straight face
And I've always lived like this
Keeping a comfortable, distance
And up until now
I had sworn to myself that I'm content
With loneliness
Because none of it was ever worth the risk

You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception

{Instrumental and Drums}

{Bridge}
I've got a tight grip on reality, but I can't
Let go of what's in front of me here
I know you're leaving in the morning, when you wake up
Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream
Ooh Ooh...

You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
[X2]

And I'm on my way to believing
Oh, and I'm on my way to believing

The Tale of New Creation

March 17 2010

Now I have my own blog!

Isa sa mga IT friends ko ang nagsabi "Definition of a blog is... an electronic journal. An e-journal"
