late preparations and sunset miracle

At nagkaroon nga ng contest noong fourth year kami.

That ended a beautiful day of August 30 2003.

I will always look at this day in a positive way, I hope you do also.

Good night!!!!!! =)

so i want all to be in my language

If only we can tagalize all foreign movies, animations and tv series lalo na yung mga non English languages, I guess I'll be very happy. I do not know why.

Ang una sa mga pinalabas nila kanina ay...ano pa nga ba... the greatest love story of this generation after Romeo and Juliet= Twilight.

Before 4pm nagising ako at pinanuod ko nga ang Twilight in Filipino.

thoghts about languages and yesterday

Si JS naman, she's with her brother sa dorm niya.

It was colorfully sunny pero umulan rin noong bandang hapon but that time nasa bahay na ako. Marami na ang tao para sa fiesta. Anticipated ang pagbisita ng iba kasi they can't do it on a Wednesday na regular working day. But I guess that is ok kasi trabaho naman ang pupuntahan niya sa Manila. Thought that's all? Hindi pa pala. It is the day when I learned na nakapasa si Lara Faye sa Nursing Licensure Examination 2011 at of course magiging isang ganap na siyang nurse niyan.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

Just two days from now at muli nanamang gugunitain ang isnag malagim na bahagi ng kasaysayang ng Pilipinas.

Haha. I guess that needs another post. Like, why is it still called Tagalog by several Filipino people? THe national language is Filipino hindi tagalog. Kapag tagalog, purista tayo.

Ok, there are twi weeks more for August and I am keeping my fingers crossed sa lahat ng magaganap na maganda.

faith works

When I was young, the concept of Faith seems to be very simple and precise. As I [and perhaps all of us] grew in age and knowledge, faith is becoming more and more obscure, shrouded, and complex. Before, I can define faith as the complete trust to someone you love; being true to one's emotion and unwilling to betray. Now that I come to know faith in relation with God, I can describe it in simplistic terms no more. The liturgical readings for today leads us to a point where a very simple expression of faith was lauded by Jesus himself. A very beautiful repertoire of readings that I cannot resist myself from writing. Now, it is this beautiful message of the readings that urged me to write reflections again, here in my blog.

In God, No Segregation, Only Creator-Creature

Why is the world so divided? This question pops into your mind and mine all the time. Everything and everyone is branded. Human mind is fragmented. Why? peoples are differentiated by their stratification. Only in this way can human mind operate. And this is the problematique of today's liturgical readings.

The Israelite thinking is so fragmented that they thought only their race is precious in God's eyes. Isiah is trying to revolutionize this mentality. the first reading [Isiah 56; 1-7] introduces us to the great understanding of God's largeness. His love is large. His acceptance is large. Larger than what Israelites ever thought of. This they need to change. Change their way of thinking that God's love is exclusively for a few. God loves the lovable and yes God loves even the unlovable. God loves the foreign believers and promised abundance to them if only they can remain faithful. God's house is open to all.

Another passage from the Old Testament reinforces the insight of Isiah as we recite the responsorial psalm for this Sunday. the psalmist sang of the immeasurable kind of majesty that God possesses. All people, not only the Israelites should praise God. God should be known to all nations and love must reign to the farthest bounds of the earth [Ps 85;9-14]. The psalmist understood the infinite greatness of God which is not only for the Israelites but to all nations.

From the Old Testament, the liturgy ushers us to a developing thought of the New Testament. Saint Paul, in the second reading taken from his letter to the Romans [Rm 11;13-16, 30-32], gave us a theological insight on what is God's purpose for loving even the gentiles. he explained that God can sometimes use the great faith of other nations to open the eyes of His own people. It is when they recognize the overflowing grace of God dispensed to gentile nations, who are responding to God in faith, that they will go back to their senses and examine their faithlessness.

A concrete example of that Paulines theology can be found in today's Gospel Reading. God is really the God of literature. His mysterious wisdom mellifluously written in the Bible; now presented coherently in the successive readings we listened to in the Mass. From discovering that God never marginalized anyone in the old Testament, to a God who empathize with the gentile nations to teach His chosen people for their refusal of Christian teachings, and now to a concrete example that dramatizes Paul's ideal doctrine.

It is indeed the coming of Jesus on earth that vivifies all godly messages. Without the Gospel, all Christian teachings are incomplete. It is the life of Jesus and His encounter with different people during his ministry that provides pragmatic translation of all contents of the scripture. And it is my prayer that more and more Christians specially Catholics may fall in love with the Gospel.

In the Gospel [Mt. 15;21-28], Jesus passed by the region of Tyre and Sydon where a Canaanite woman persistently cried out for his help. The daughter of this Canaanite woman is suffering from possession. Jesus, pretending he doesn't hear, was requested by the apostles to send the woman away. This did not weaken the woman's faith. Jesus told her that He was sent only for the lost sheep of Israel and that it is not good to throw the children's food to the dogs. The persistent woman, showing her huge maternal love, swallowed the words of sarcasm and replied "But even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the master's table" What does that statement imply in our encounter with God? In our spiritual education? Did we even bother once to ask ourselves why did Jesus lauded the woman after saying this? And Jesus, admiring the woman for her rather great faith, granted her request and healed the daughter.

It is because the woman exposed the lack of faith in the part of the disciples. this incidence is an opportunity for Jesus to teach the disciples of how the majesty of God surpasses their shallow and exclusive understanding. Jesus knew that the disciples are still dwelling on the old mentality that God is only for the Israelites. He knew that at that very moment, a woman [nay gentile] will come and fight for her belief that even the dogs [gentile dogs] can eat the food under the children's [Jews] table. the woman fought for her belief that this God, although for the Jews, has immeasurable graces and blessings and capable of giving away even to the gentiles. An abundant God who can provide the needs of all believers regardless of class and nationality. This kind of faith is rare. Her faith is extraordinary. A faith that is miles away different from the simplistic mentality of the disciples.

This radical moment in the ministry of the Lord Jesus confirms the second reading of today. God can make use of the great faith of the gentiles to open the eyes of His chosen people; to make them realize their insufficiency in faith. The disciples, in telling Jesus to send the woman away only showed their poor understanding of Christ's mission. They sticked to the old belief that the Messiah is only for the Jews. This is the attitude of the disciples. They hated responsibilities. Remember how they behaves when Jesus administered to the people two Sundays ago? They told Jesus to send the people away because it's going late and they have no food to feed them. Jesus told them that they are the ones to give food themselves. The Gospel last Sunday, focused again in the apostles' imperfect faith. They were so terrified by the winds and the waves that they did not even recognize Jesus walking towards them. Jesus exclaimed "Oh you of little faith why did you doubt" as Peter sank into the water.

Now, it is another time for Jesus to strengthen the faith and understanding of the apostles. The apostles need to learn that God is for all. The mission of Jesus extends even to the gentiles. This mission is entrusted later on to Saint Paul. From today's readings we learn that Saint Paul's apostleship is Christ elected. God's kingdom is open to all. God is larger that the preconceived god of the old Jewish people. God is not exclusively for Israel, though he has chosen a race and set them apart from the others. God's love is not fragmented. God is not divided. God never marginalizes.

You may sometimes feel you're an outsider in God's kingdom. Maybe you feel unloved compared to others who enjoy godly privileges. this Sunday should empower you. This Sunday should inflame in you new hope. Please, People of God, get out of your boxed mentality. Raise the level of your expectations. Even if you don't deserve it... ask anyway, who knows God may answer it. He is larger than your thinking.

episodes of amity, courage and optimism

Si Kevin, akala ko magiging pulitiko o isang abogado pero he ended up in engineering. Kahit saan mo namn ilagay si Kevin magiging successful siya kasi matalino siya both in numbers and memorization at kahit sa practical. Matatalo ko lang siya sa performing arts.

Around the World

Naku!

Hopeful ako na all these storms shall pass.

are they smart enough?

The Philippine education system started even in the pre colonial period of history. The babaylans and katalonans were the first educators. Usually, they teach only organic medicinal science and household activities. Students are also taught about the civic organizations and how to govern. They are also taught military and warfare education.

The Spanish educators brought Catholicism and scholasticism patterned after the European way of teaching. There was discrimination in part of mestizos and the yndios. Pure Filipino students weren't able to gain higher degree of education which is already available during those times.

The American education system brought by Thomasites in the 19 hundredths totally improved the way of learning in the Philippines and most of the practices that are applied heretofore are remnants of the American paradigm of education.

Today, the secondary education seems to be insufficient when compared to the other countries in Southeast Asia. A drastic move was made when from being Department of Education Culture and Sports, the government arm was renamed as Department of Education to centralize the government activity prior to education.

In the secondary level we have the following as the existing subjects;

First Year

General Science with Earth Science as the main focus
Filipino [Pagbasa, Pagsulat, Pagbigkas]
Panitikan Filipino [Ibong Adarna] Awit at Korido
Technology and Livelihood Economics with Computer Technology

Mathematics [Holistic Math Survey and Introduction to Probability]
English [Reading, Writing, Speech, Literature]
Values Education

Second Year

The same except for

Biology
Panitikang Filipino [Florante at Laura]
Araling Panlipunan [Asian geography History and Government]
Mathematics [Algebra and Introduction to Analytic Geometry]

Third Year

Chemistry
Panitikang Filipino [Noli Me Tangere]
Araling Panlipunan [ World History and Government]
Electricity
Mathematics [Advance Algebra and Matrix]
Math Elective [Geometry]
Values Education

Fourth Year

Physics
Araling Panlipunan [ Economics with AIDS awareness and Family Planning]
Drafting
Panitikan [El Felibusterismo]
Mathematics [ Calculus with Analytic Geometry]
Math Elective [Trigonometry]

Just recently, the Aquino administration proposed the K+12 program for education. K+12 means Kindergarten and the 12 years of elementary and secondary education.
Kindergarten refers to the 5-year old cohort that takes a standardized kinder curriculum.Elementary education refers to primary schooling that involves six or seven years of education.

After considering various proposals and studies, the model that is currently being proposed by DepEd is the K-6-4-2 Model. This model involves Kindergarten, six years of elementary education, four years of junior high school (Grades 7 to 10) and two years of senior high school (Grades 11 to 12). The two years of senior high school intend to provide time for students to consolidate acquired academic skills and competencies.

Now if ever there will be additional years for secondary education, I want to propose, as a citizen of the country, the following subjects which I guess will help students improve in other essential aspects in between the existing departments of studies. Here they are;

Derivation of Formula

Before you laugh, just let me finish why I want it as a separate subject. It will do progress in the ability of high school students to arrange and rearrange and find proper solutions for what is missing. Each students should install in mind critical mathematical thinking and skills.

When they derive formulas, they will be dealing with variables which are not necessarily numerical. They can apply this problem solving practice even in non mathematical problems and that specially in Physics where they always encounter letters as part of the solution.

Multimedia Technology and Social Networking

Highschool students must be guided on how to use social networking which is the very world they are in today. They have to acquire early on, skills and proper training in multimedia using softwares that are, for most the adults are complicated to use. They should be prepared for this kind of technical works in the future otherwise they will be left behind. They should also learn how to protect themselves from the web of facebook and twitter users who might intent to hack their accounts or do other forms of harm.

Spanish or French

Additional language is required in a globalized world. In this age where they can meet new people via internet, they should know how to communicate with most of them. Most of the people in the world speak not only English but also Spanish and French in a large number of Western Countries. Knowing Spanish will make them understand English language better and of course they will be able to distinguish which Filipino words are innately Filipino and what are borrowed from the Spanish tongue.

Entrepreneurship and Marketing 101

Aside from Technology and Livelihood, students should learn how to sell the products of their labor in this subjects. They should know how to capitalize and promote their own works with confidence. they should learn how the market operates and the school has to equip them with skills to build small businesses early at this stage.

last fight and test for her black belt

Tomorrow, JS will have her taekwondo promotion test for 3rd dan blackbelt. She called me early this afternoon just to remind me and wish her luck. Sure she can di ba? Astig si JS magiging blackbelter na just like Daddy Onad. I guess, if my memory serves me right, may black belt din sa taekwondo si Sir. Aside from these two special persons in my life, meron din akong mga ka batch noong highschool na into this kind of defense training.

I wasn’t exposed sa taekwondo so I really wanna make bawi sa anak kapag elementary na sila. It is good when you have this outlet and discipline.

Discipline is essential kung gusto mong maging master sa martial arts. Kahit sa Wu Shu, it is always a combination of a disciplined form and contact-combat. Just recently, I found out that shibashi Qui gong was derived from the contemplative parts of Chinese Martial Arts form. It is learning the “Chi” energy manipulation while doing the forms. Kaya naman pala para na rin akong into Martial Arts whenever I do that, pero preliminary steps pa lang yun. Combat follows after that. It goes to show na hindi ganun ka violent ang mga martial arts. Since they are arts, incorporated dito ang balance [as in the case and law of yin-yang], well coordinated mind and body, discipline at aesthetics [siguro when it comes to form].

Right, dapat may disiplina sa pangangatawan ang master of arts. Magsisimula yan sa tamang pagbabalanse ng katawan, tamang paghinga or breathing exercise, then the opening up of the chest, readiness of the arms to sway with the winds, stillness of the mind. Kailangan naka rest din ang isip at hindi bomabarded by the other ongoing activities. Sportsmanship is another virtue na puwede nating matagpuan in the domain of taekwondo, karatedo, and other martial arts. Anyway….

Last words to say, siguro good luck sa non- biological sister ko. JS is now ready to be a master. Very Filipino? Try to learn naman Arnis. This is another form of Martial arts na kinikilalalang Pinoy. Pero this time around kailangan ng gumamit ng organic extensions/ weapons, and that is the molave sticks na ginagamit.

The Force be with us!

more concoctions on personal paroxysm

Cuz I am not a word, I am not a line, I am not a man that can ever be defined. I am not fly, I am levitation, I represent an entire generation. And this work happens to be a nexus where all opinions can be discussed.

Whereas, the author, attended a conference in De La Salle University Manila as of July 02 2011. The very date I bought Lorraine. And what we talked about? Causality. Time. Knowledge. Person. Truth. You see! An experience I wasn't able to write though I am dying to. That intellectual emptiness which I want to fill time and again.

Whereas, the next Saturday after that I sat as an audience in the Ricordare Concert of the Novo Concertante Manila. Braving the rain as I travel from Laguna to Villa Verde, the music penetrated the entirety of my being as if an elixir for a longer life which cures the soul busied the cacophony of outrages dwelling in a noisy environment such as ours--- the 21st century, a generation that had not known Bach, Vivaldi and Palestrina.

Whereas, by Sunday, July 10 2011 the day after the concert of Novo Concertante Manila, I met new friends from Polytechnic University of the Philippines who are currently taking up master's degree in Comm. These friends utilized my talent pro bono. I was extremely grateful for an opportunity to help; I guess even more than how grateful they are to me for nodding yes to their request. It was a refreshing experience where I rekindled my passion and more so a colourful acquaintance with new people. That lengthy afternoon became more exhausting as I decided to stay in Manila no longer. I got home in Laguna at 12 am.

Whereas, July 14, I made time to remembrance of what happened eight years ago. It was that Monday of July 14 of 2003 when I had the chance to converse with the maiden who owned my heart as captive of her beauty. I am thinking if I 'll be forever hers. Meanwhile, the same date of 2011 is the very first time that I talked with Trisha. the girl, who because of her unprecedented beauty and rather immaculate smile became the very reason why my heart is beating again. Could this be a plausible sign that Trisha is anointed to take the place of my Empress as I move towards that promising New Beginning? Or will I wait again for another perfect woman who can surpass the eminence of LFVC? As luck would told me, it is either the feminine Trisha or the boyish Justine. These two ladies taking more time to occupy my mind [ I'll write a separate article for these two] making it frequent to hang like an old computer waiting to be upgraded.

Whereas, the Cultural Center of the Philippines opened the gates of silver screen with the 7th Cinemalaya Film Festival amidst the worldwide frenzy for the last instalment of Harry Potter series. Participants and organizers of cinemalaya runned the show festival without an iota of bashfulness nor doubt. Simultaneously, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows attracted mass audiences including Trisha herself, who I knew out of fealty screamed for a ticket. Harry Potter lined with the epitomic movies released just this summer which, to name a few, includes Johny Depp’s “Pirates of the Carrebean 4”, “Kung Fu Panda 2”, “Green Lantern” with Blake [Oh Blake], X-Men First Class, Super 8, Transformers 3, and Chris Evan’s Captain America which as of now is topping the gross. Notice that most of these movies are child friendly. America just funded lots of movies formed by fictitious characters that project their slight despair for reality.

Whereas of July 23, PBA all star met and played with NBA stars in Smart Araneta Coliseum. A dream made into reality by Manny Pangilinan. All Basketball enthusiast of the Philippine archipelago rejoiced while watching, and count Justine in, either live in Araneta Center or via television and internet at home. Manny Pacquiao graced the occasion with his presence and how funny that NBA players were like ah-ah, stunned because of Manny.

Whereas, the president of the Republic delivered his second state of the nation address to the people who elected him as the 14th Congress opened its session. The president boasts of the administration’s accomplishments in just a year. Also, an expose on the oblique actions of the previous officials specially that if PAGCOR. At the end of his speech was an encouragement to all Filipinos to be more grateful. To stop hate and start thanking each other. After that, July 26, a typhoon came and devastated region 5.

Whereas, Incubus and 30 Seconds to Mars just had their concert in Manila last July 28 and 29. The show just proved that most Filipinos are up to date with the pop rock scene. There still is wide market for foreign acts and the Filipinos are very welcoming to that kind of music. I hope Incubus and Jared enjoyed their stay in Manila. Hope they’ll come back and have Trisha and me as audiences.

Whereas, July 29 is the 59th birthday of my Mom. I can say that we eagerly waited for that Friday. I enjoyed seeing my Mom happy. We wish her all the best in life and may we still have more and more times to celebrate life together.

Ergo, life is diverse. Filled with such and such activities, a person of today appears in a kaleidoscopic image which is too complex to define verbatim. Simply put. I cannot be boxed as a person who is like this or like that. A generation resonates in my bare humanity. Likewise, we see here the necessity of circumspection since it is the key to unlocking the secret of cosmopolitan identity. To earn a homogenous title as a person stratified in one’s own generation, each experiences should be assessed and taken into consideration as whether it is actually you or someone else.
