Careers for Solo Performances

Lately there are two songs I am hearing bearing the word solo on their title. One from Aiaz and teh other from Jason Derulo.

Wanna go solo? I just remember I wrote something about solo performances in an article I posted on facebook. I quote;

"A person blessed with a beautiful voice is standing in a point with a vast of opportunities surrounding him or her. An ocean of chances or a horizon of confusing choices. it is up to the person to decide. Even beautiful speaking voice which lacks musicality can be any of the following;

1. Computer generated and telephone prompter
2. TV Animation and Korean soap dubber
3. Event and beauty pageant host
4. Narrator for documentary films
5. Boxing ring announcer
6. Basketball Commentator
7. Radio Newscaster
8. Voice over for Hollywood Movie Trailer

How much more is waiting for a singer? I would like to cite a few of them which nonetheless the most fulfilling to vocal musicians pursuing a career.

1. Recording Industry --- the most highly paid voice performers can found in the recording industry. Every solo singers are aspiring to have an album of their own. At one point, those artists become famous and their success is truly worth mentioning.

- Rock Music = Amidst the presence of Rock bands, David Cook and Chris Daughtry were able to find their places in the gamut of Rock carrying their names alone.

- RNB Music = Justine Bieber at the age of 16 reached the peek of his career by becoming the youngest and the hottest solo RNB and soul singer of today's world.

- Alternative Dance = What seems to be impossible was made possible by Lady Gaga. Just when we thought no one can redeem the sexy image left by Cristina Aguilera and Madonna, she proved everyone wrong by singing us Poker Face.

2. Hotel and Broadway

A lot of singers are only looking for a living and not fame. To sustain their lives by having a regular income while working is for me one of the noble ways to earn money. these musicians make use of music as their profession. They want to entertain people, they are happy with their job, I guess that is enough. I don't see it as a source of bread alone but an option to practice a casual artistry while making it amusing and glamorous.

the advantage of this kind is that they are stagnant. they don't get famous and then end up nothing. There is an assurance for their worth. RENT and Cats are broadway musicals enjoyed by many Filipinos. Who would say that Jazz lovers are only in hotels?

3. Classical Music

In America alone, there are hundreds of thousands students enrolling every year to enter Colleges of Music majoring in voice. Their main issue is the classicals. By classical music I mean any of these three faces; Orchestra Music, Choral Music and Opera Classics. Their opportunities lies mostly in teaching music after taking Masters degree, joining choral groups and because we are talking of solo performances, the Opera music. Opera music is something that showcases the strength of the human voice particularly that of a solo performer.

Whatever case there may be, whether singers are pursuing records, broadways, or opera [or others which are not mentioned here] they have to train themselves and correct their malpractices in singing. A vocal coach is necessary if singers really crave for a brighter future in their careers. "
